  18. Hybrid's Remote Link Adapter (RLA*) Model 110   is an affordable, specialized
  19. standalone routing unit that extends IP connectivity to a remote location.  The
  20. Model 110 RLA allows any remote  Ethernet Workstation user asymmetric
  21. high-speed Internet access or access to their central office sites.  High-speed
  22. encrypted data is broadcast downstream while lower speed data flows back from
  23. the RLA via the return channel.  Hybrid offers three versions of the Model 110
  24. RLA that differ based on the  return channel option.  The Model 110 ETM
  25. requires the end user to supply the external telephone modem for the return
  26. channel.  The Model 110 ITM comes with an internal telephone modem for the
  27. return channel.  The internal telephone modem operates at or above 14,400 bps.
  28. The Model 110 CM has an internal cable modem which operates the return channel
  29. at 19,200 bps on the upstream cable. This option requires a local two-way cable
  30. TV system.

  32. Multiple remote users can share the same cable or wireless channel.  The RLA is
  33. easily installed by connecting it to a remote Ethernet Workstation with any
  34. Ethernet connection.  The remote user completes the network installation by
  35. simply plugging the RLA into a local cable TV network or broadcast antenna.
  36. Once the return line is activated, the remote Workstation user can now
  37. communicate with host computers or servers located at any central site location
  38. on the Internet or, if desired, his corporate headquarters.  As an added
  39. feature, remote Workstation users can also communicate with other remote
  40. Workstation users.

  44. Typical Applications

  46. The Model 110 RLA is ideal for remote PC, X-Windows and remote network file
  47. system (NFS) applications.  Because the Model 110 RLA is Ethernet compatible,
  48. schools and small offices can link multiple computers to one Model 110 RLA on
  49. an Ethernet LAN.  Telecommuting PC, Mac, and X-Terminal or  Workstation users
  50. running "X" based high-resolution graphics, imaging, animation, CAD/CAE,
  51. database inquiries and other multimedia applications are excellent candidate
  52. users for the Model 110 RLA.  In these X-based applications, most high-speed
  53. information  flows in the downstream direction.  Low-speed keyboard entries,
  54. mouse movements and protocol acknowledgements are the only data travelling in
  55. the reverse direction.  The upstream throughput is limited by the speed of the
  56. return channel.  Hybrid recommends that its users operate the return channels
  57. at speeds at or above 9600 bps.
